Why You’re Not Getting Recruiter Responses Even After Multiple Follow-Ups (And How to Fix It)

You’ve found the perfect job, submitted your application, and even followed up diligently—but still, no response from recruiters. It’s a frustrating and disheartening situation that many professionals face. Here are the most common reasons — and how to fix each one.

1. Your resume isn’t passing the screen

Most applications are filtered before a human reads them. Use an ATS-friendly format, mirror the language of the job description and quantify your achievements so both the system and the recruiter see relevance in seconds.

2. Your follow-up emails are generic

Keep follow-ups short and personal. Thank them, restate your fit in one line and reconfirm your interest. A template that could be sent to anyone gets treated like it was.

3. You are contacting the wrong person

Use LinkedIn and company research to identify the hiring manager or the recruiter who actually owns the role. The right message to the wrong person is still silence.

4. Your LinkedIn doesn’t match your resume

Recruiters check your profile before they reply. Keep titles, dates and achievements consistent, keep the profile current and stay visibly active in your field.

5. Your follow-ups add no value

Share something useful — a relevant article, a short insight on their market or a project that proves your fit. Value earns replies; reminders rarely do.

6. Your timing is off

Wait roughly 5–7 business days before the first follow-up, follow up once more a week later, then allow about two weeks before a final attempt.

7. The role is on hold or already filled

Sometimes the silence has nothing to do with you. Ask politely about the status, and keep your pipeline full so one role never holds your search hostage.

The fix, in one line

Align your resume and LinkedIn, personalise your outreach, target the right people and keep your search broad. If you’re still not hearing back, it’s time for a positioning review.
